About Roblox
Roblox Corporation is an American video game development company. Founded in 2004, the company's headquarters are in San Mateo, California.
The company is famous for releasing the game with the same name, Roblox, in 2006. Roblox is an online game creation system and game platform where users can create their own games by using the programing language Lua.
Initially available only for Windows, Roblox became available for iOS users in December 2012 and for Android users in July 2014. As of November 2015, the game is also available for Xbox One users.
Because of the high number of platforms released during that period and the lack of interest for press coverage of one of the cofounders, Roblox was largely unknown to the public during the first years.
The game began to grow during the second half of the 2010s and became a big name during the Covid-19 pandemic, reaching 164 million users in 2020.
Although a free-to-play game, users can make in-game purchases using "Roblux," a virtual currency.
